You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance

The New Law

Really really really good hip hop. Sort of based on the Ennio Morricone music from the Spaghetti Westerns, but with that sort of futuristic sound as well. Just what the doctor ordered

Sigmafly

More of that really lush ‘glo-fi’ sort of music. It doesn’t say anything on the bandcamp page about them at all. Sounds like Sun Glitters/Stumbeleine etc. They have the bottle to do a remix of Nina Simone and it actually works so extra bonus points for that

Big Red Cap

Pretty funny London rapper with some really good beats. It’s not all up my street but there are some great tracks on here. And it’s all for free so give it a whirl

The paintings are by Clinton Felker

“The village feverishly worked through the night to complete the giant Hulk Hogan robot. Only then will they be able to counter the evil that awaits them.”

Alien Pimp

Really cool video of the Chinese PLA looking scary at a parade (probably national day) set to some nice techy house music. Alien Pimp is part of Dubkraft which is some sort of techno hippy thing I think, here is a link to their website although it was down when I checked

Strictly hip hop

Just found these showcases from Charlie Sloth show on BBC Radio. It’s a bit like Westwood, he gets these amazing performances out of his guests and then ruins it by putting silly sound effects and shouting in a silly voice over the top. Still, amazing freestyles. I’m not a big fan of much UK hiphop but these two performances are worth a watch if you like any hiphop at all

Akala

Logic

Tentacular/Lotte Rose

I featured this record label last year and they came out with another beauty. Beautiful Danish music amazing singing with nice beats. Skol!

Cuttooth

Always good to big up Newcastle artists cos there is a lot of talent in the city but you never get to hear about it. This is cuttooth who is also sleepy who makes 8bit reggae that I’ve used before on here

Art

The art is Tobias Kwan

Awesome stuff Mr Kwan

Bah

I’m on holiday at my girlfriend’s parents for spring festival (Chinese New Year) so I’m afraid I won’t be able to update. I know, I promised…..

Sorry. I have a bunch of cool links as well

Spread your wings pet

Not much happening here. Been riding my bike about and got my camera fixed so I should take some more pictures, it’s a misty grey wasteland here so not much to photograph though

Collage

Wonderful compilation called Far From Moscow which is a collective made up of artists from Russia, Ukraine and places like that. A mix of all sorts of music, something for everyone, mostly housey sort of stuff and hip-hop sort of stuff as you might guess. Sort of reminds me of when I used to buy random CDs based on how cool the names of the artists were.

Here is their website

Some Games

Miyamoto

Total hero, Miyamoto is the guy who created Mario and Zelda, if you read up on him on Wikipedia (here) he is some kind of insane genius. He no longer works as a game designer, but he now has a tumblr which has a couple of completely insane games on, and probably more to follow HERE

Ancient Greek Punishment

Really funny game 8 bit based on the greek punishments. Amusing for a few minutes. The whole website is really good, quite a few interesting philosophy based games and also some nice art and random thought from some professor of games design in Denmark. LINK HERE

Art

The art today is by Guy Laramee via Colossal again. Mayeb the best carved books yet!

I promise….

Christmas and all of that jazz is over. Yet again I will promise that I will start updating this more regularly. Mostly I spent the time drinking and listening to Lana del Rey. I was going to do a review of the year but I got so bored of reading them that I didn’t. Here are some links to start the new year off with

Stumbleine/Last Japan

I know I’ve featured Stumbleine before, but they are probably my favourite artist who I blogged about last year, and this remix is just beautiful.

Last Japan – Settle Down (Stumbleine Remix) by Stumbleine

Fent Plates Records

Another artist who I featured last year was Asa. They posted this release on a Fent Plates compilation which is a really nice album, for free as well.

For some reason I can’t put the link into this post so here it is to copy Their website

So Solid Crew

Really funny link here, the wikipedia list of all of the members of So Solid Crew from back in the day. Mrs Gogginz!

Link Here

Always outnumbered….

BossFYTE

This is yet another one of my ‘new favourite songs’ the video is pretty cool as well. I’m not sure what to make of the band, they have a really nifty website and make some pretty solid chiptune music that isn’t too geeky, give em a deeks

WEBSITE

Ninjah Fareye

Raggacore and jungle, a bit like a more talented version of me hehe. This artist has been posting on ragga-jungle.com for a while but I just checked out his soundcloud this weekend wanting some fierce beats and they are pretty fierce. Must admit I’m getting older and sometimes with all of the distorted bassdrum I just think ‘enough distorted bass drum’ but I don’t even know if that is a criticism?

Ninjah Fareye – Shottas Payback by Ninjah Fareye

OriJanus

Nebulaura by oriJanus

Nice mellow hiphop, sometimes goes into weirdy territory bust mostly it’s just some really nice relaxed breaks. REally good production and nicely laid out

Art

The art today is by Robert Proch, Polish based artist. Found on Collossal

Beware the moon

Solar eclipse over this weekend here in China, I didn’t realise though and just sat inside and drank lol. Coming up to Christmas, one of the best things about living here though is that you can totally ignore it if you want. The supermarket has a little section with an inflatable Santa and all the utter crap that we people are meant to buy. But it isn’t some thing that you feel you should be a part of, it’s just a little bit of crap.
It kind of makes you think, most people have fond memories of Christmas from when they were kids, and a lot of people still enjoy it as adults, travelling home, seeing old friends and family from chilhood. But here without any of the tradition you just see the commercial side isolated and how Chinese react to it. It’s basically asking people to buy shiny fire hazards for their house!

they do though…..

The Moon Comes Closer

Nice compilation of German hiphop/jazz sort of music, great for the last thing you hear before you go to sleep. They want to bring the moon closer to you through your mind or something. Free until Jan 1st

Stagga

Stagga is making some really nice hiphoppy dubsteppy stuff. Another kind of music that is kind of a new genre but I don’t know what it’s called or if anyone should bother making a name for it instead of just enjoying it. I think Hudson Mohawke was one of the first people to do this sort of music. It’s like dubstep but it’s a bit faster and more like disco hiphop. Since a lot of ‘dubstep’ is now being made and played at 150 and 160bpm I wonder if it’s just going to turn into 90s jungle?

princess funk by STAGGAMUFFIN

Bonus

I googled Stagga and found out that there are two Staggas on Soundcloud, they are both pretty good!

HULK HOP Vs CRUNK ROCK MIX by stagga

Cement Eclipse

The little people and cops are by an artist called Isaac Cordal. I love this sort of thing, just the right balance between funny and arty. Some of the pictures are named ‘Slinkachu’ who I have featured before so I’m not sure if it’s the same person/people as last time, but it’s good whatever….

Link

It’s been a while….

A month without updating is a long long time in the internet, I don’t really have a good reason why I haven’t posted, I’ve been downloading less music and watching more films and that but anyway. In my real life I’ve just finished my first semester as a university teacher except the exams, it has become really cold here and no central heating in China, nothing much has changed in my life which I don’t post about on here anyway!

Ok, some wonderful free music for your enjoyment

Kidkanevil

This is pretty much aimed at me, 8bit nanoloop sounds over 90s hiphop beats, it even has a sketch drawing of a Japanese cartoon character whose name I can’t remember for the cover. The tune ‘One for Tokyo’ is sublime and the hiphop tunes are also pretty special. BAM!

Hashfinger

More hiphop style goodness this is just really really nicely produced and put together music with expert use of samples and some really really luscious basslines. I can’t find any biography or anything saying if they are musicians or sampling masters or what is going on but it’s some awesome music right here

here is their website

…and it’s one from me…

A remix I did of Opus III’s classic old hardcore tune ‘It’s a Fine Day’. I’m not really sure if I did it justice, like most of my tunes this has that feeling of being a draft. Still, I was quite chuffed with myself for making something…

It’s a fine day by kid hideous

Art

The art is by a guy called DRAN, found on the excellent Pictures on Walls website. Absolutely love this, it has that slightly off key dark cuteness that you really gets me

Just got an ounce in the mail….

Opposite Exhale

Absolutely beautiful glitchy piano stuff. Inhale, exhale….

A Future Without

A future without hope, a future without borders, a future without hate, a future without revolution or a future in permanent revolution?

Lovely blog by a lovely little music label
