Notes on Breakcore: Documentary

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

Ok, so this isn’t a new video, it was made in 2005, and a lot has changed in Breakcore since then, many artists have become more established, new people have come up etc etc. Living out of the country it is difficult for me to keep up with what is going on, as far as I can tell from my visit home, and keeping up on the internet, there are more parties than ever, and although the buzz isn’t quite as intense as it was when this film came out, there is still plenty of new and exciting music coming out, and nights starting up all over the shop (Although Toxic Dancehall closed :(:(:()

But it is still a good watch. 30 minute long video about the ‘Breakcore’ scene made by a couple of Austrian guys. Very well made, with a nice compilation of live sets and interviews with some of the main artists.

Story Challenge: Fairytales

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

TCRE story forum has just started our first ever story challenge on the forum

The idea is very simple, every month someone chooses an idea for stories, and then everyone writes a story. No competition or rules, just try to stick to the format, although if you don’t it doesn’t matter. So if you like writing stories, please give it a shot

Fairy Tales

A fairy tale relies on two elements,

1. It has to have some element of magic in it, it doesn’t have to be ‘magic’ magic with witches and stuff, a lot of fairy tales just have magic which occurs in day to day life, interpret that how you want. It could just be an amazing ‘coincidence’ since we aren’t a bunch of skanky hippies

2. It has to have some sort of cautionary message. Fairy tales always have a moral at the end, again you can interpret this how you like

Hopefully this will be a way to get people to try and write something interesting. Please don’t feel bound by the rules, if your story takes a different turn, and ends up without any magic or message, just post it anyways

The story forum is here. Or if you don’t want to register you can just leave your story as a comment here :)

Kid Hideous Finally Gets His Act Together

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Well, kind of. After not making any tunes since about June, I finally buckled down and made 2. I have been working on the same frickin tune for about a month, and I finally decided to just finish her off. And then just after I finished it, my friend came over who is an MC, so he recorded this tune with me, and I stuck it on one of the dormant tunes on my computer, and it just went perfect. The rest is history etc

So anyways, this early week blog entry is not one but two new tunes from the Kid Hideous stable

Jahtari : Digital Laptop Reggae

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

null

This is another beauty of a link thanks to SoreenKid

Jahtari is a German record label who have combined Reggae-Dub music with computer generated music. The philosophy is that Dub is live music, whereas computer music is the opposite, digitally structured. They explain it a lot better than I can here. Basically, the main thing is that it’s kickarse reggae, combined with retro computer geekery. They call it ‘digital laptop reggae’ we call it f***ing class

Very nicely designed site, with a shedload of free music to listen to and download

One In The Jungle 95-98!!!!

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

This used to be one of the highlights of listening to the radio, or in fact, my week. Every Friday night you would have all of the best Junglist DJs and MCs tearing it up on Radio 1. This was before DrumnBass, before the darkness set in, and then the ‘rebirth’ as cheesey ‘Clownstep’ or ‘Jump-Up’ this was proper Jungle. It was a golden time when it was still exciting, they were pirate radio playing on Radio 1 PrimeTime. Now this would be called old school, but to me this stuff still sounds fresher than any number of Swift or Dillinja clones that DnB seems to be flooded with now

So anyways, lots of 1 in the Jungle mixes available to download here and here
