A really cool webcomic, I don’t really read webcomics, but i love the artwork on this. The site also has lots of information about the world that the guy created

Story Challenge: Fairytales

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

TCRE story forum has just started our first ever story challenge on the forum

The idea is very simple, every month someone chooses an idea for stories, and then everyone writes a story. No competition or rules, just try to stick to the format, although if you don’t it doesn’t matter. So if you like writing stories, please give it a shot

Fairy Tales

A fairy tale relies on two elements,

1. It has to have some element of magic in it, it doesn’t have to be ‘magic’ magic with witches and stuff, a lot of fairy tales just have magic which occurs in day to day life, interpret that how you want. It could just be an amazing ‘coincidence’ since we aren’t a bunch of skanky hippies

2. It has to have some sort of cautionary message. Fairy tales always have a moral at the end, again you can interpret this how you like

Hopefully this will be a way to get people to try and write something interesting. Please don’t feel bound by the rules, if your story takes a different turn, and ends up without any magic or message, just post it anyways

The story forum is here. Or if you don’t want to register you can just leave your story as a comment here :)

Zenith Phase 3 scorecard!

Zenith gets antsy

One for teh fanboys & grrrls…

2000A.D.’s Zenith series was split into 4 main segments, Phase One through Four. During the epic third Phase, Zenith and his cast joined an array of other heroes from across the multiverse in a fight against the deadly Lliogor, who were terrorising some of the alternate Earths in the multiverse in host bodies stolen from other superheroes. Zenith Phase Three is a delight for fans of British superheroes, as there are dozens of them dotted around throughout the story, both as themselves (when copyright problems didn’t get in the way) and under pseudonyms (when they did). Some of these characters are readily identifiable, but other are not. What we need is a scorecard!

Nope, I have no fucking idea, but I bet it’s cool shit…

PS Lumpy (who in theory Mrs Muffins & I were replacing) was also in attendance, due to what the Janet Jackson in him might consider a diary malfunction, which in a way was a good thing, as I have now borrowed his recently purchased copy of the Hotspur annual 1971 8)

Hotspur Book For Boys 1971

PPS I have 72, 74, 76, 79, 81, 83, 85, 86 & 89 - anyone fancy helping me fill in the gaps?

“Yesterday’s Tomorrow, Today!”

That be the tagline of Modern Mechanix, a lovely little blog focusing on all those old science and technology magazines of yore, with names like ‘Popular Science’ (unlike the unpopular stuff - those white-coated lab rats were cliquey mofos), ‘Mechanix Illustrated’ and, erm, ‘Physical Culture’…

Anyhow, lots of interesting stuff, and some great pictures.

Pentone

Friday, April 20th, 2007

A mate of mine does some cool stuff:

Nick Asbury is set to make an appearance in this year’s D&AD annual, as one of only five writers recognised in the ‘Writing for Design’ category. The project in question is Pentone, a self-promotional piece inspired by the Pantone colour-matching system used by designers everywhere. This time, instead of colour swatches, Nick has produced a set of ‘copy swatches’ ranging from ‘Boring’ to ‘Wacky’ to ‘Spam’ and the unmistakable ‘Daily Mail’.

Wraeth’s First Podcast : Edgar Marriot

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

This isn’t a radio show as such, but three short pieces playing around with recording:

Edgar Marriott wrote a series of monologues about the Ramsbottom family, which Stanley Holloway made famous performing in the 1920s. They need a strong Northern accent for best effect - and after unsuccessfully trying to co-opt Tangerinebreem for a full five minutes, I decided to ‘ave a go meself.

You can find all three here on my PodOmatic page if you want to have a listen, they’re only just over three minutes long each.

I’ve still got a problem with echo, which isn’t too bad when doing speech cos it sounds like yer in the Albert Hall or summat

Won’t work on radio shows though  Helpz
