Brief history of jungle

Like the man who wrote the page says, it’s just for fun and not meant to be some reference piece, but it’s a nice read and some clips of really good tunes to kill half an hour or so

If you like hardcore…..

Bad news - Hardcore original BassGenerator is retiring, sad news, he was always a cut above. I was never mad into hardcore but growing up in the 90s in the north-east it was pretty much impossible to not hear Judgement Day/After Dark/Fantazia etc tapes all the time and BassyG was always playing a bit more original sound than most of them

Anyway, the good news is that as a going away present he is selling a massive amount of tunes he’s played and released on his record label over the last 20 years

20 quid for 40 hours of hardcore, all for a good cause as well.

Bass Generator says

Bass Generator’s History of Hardcore 1991-2010

To mark my retirement I have for sale for a very limited time a very, very special offer.
I have compiled the absolute best 350 Dj mixes from Judgement Day/Fubar/Rezerection/Fantazia/BTTF/Awesome 101/Dance Concept/Unity/Fusion/EH1 etc!!

Wily gives away 200 tracks

This won’t be news for people who go on the net every day but Hiphop/Grime godfather Wiley got in a huff with his record company and gave away about 200 tracks for free.

The really cool thing is that he is still gonna make an album, he just wanted to fuck over record companies

More of this sort of thing!

Bear With Me

Newcastle based music label. All sorts of experimental electronic music/sounds

Some of it is brilliant, of course, being experimental sometimes it goes right ‘out there’ and it’s not to everyone’ taste, jarring and melodik music along the lines of Mithra mixing up beautiful beats and melodies with toothache sounds and general artiness :D

A lot of free stuff since it’s run on a donation bonus and even if you don’t like the songs, they all have excellent titles like ‘Everywhere You go Someone is Doing the Same Thing as you Only Better’ and ‘If You’re Going To Do That To Me, At Least Look Me In The Face While You Do It’

Tykal : Jets Where Stars Should Be

Just amazing old skool jungle here

from tykal

Jet Star. Two words most old skool jungle collectors eye with envy, in some cases seething jealousy, knowing how hard they are to come by and how perfectly they can hit the spot when you’re in the mood for some funky homespun badboy groove. On the other hand, they can be a bitch and three-quarters to mix, and some of the tunes are so sketchily put together that they can sound “off” all on their own. Even so, whenever I venture into the sonic library of this major reggae distributor turned underground jungle label, my eyes usually glaze over with a mixture of wonder and wishing, wishing that there were more, more releases and more of each release, that more of their catalogue numbers made sense in any form of logic, and that more artists had taken cue from their example: funk, soul, rnb, ragga and jungle layered in just the right proportions as to allow the ears to feel the full bouquet of their palette teased out and tantalized into attentive submission. As such, I’ve long felt that an all Jet Star tribute mix was overdue, and word has come from the cellar that the brew has sufficiently aged, so I’ve broken out the antique glasses, served it up with a side of boomshot, and hope that as you make your way home tonight, or as you brock out after hours when the wife and kids are in bed, you feel I’ve given these slices of jungle history the treatment they deserve. Taking leave, I’ll roughly paraphrase Mr. Psychedelic and say, let the world drop away awhile, tune in to 1995 London, break out your intoxicant of choice, lean back, turn on.

Star Wars Breakcore Remixes

Breakcore website I Hate Breakcore just ran a competition to mash up Star Wars with hard beats and craziness. Since I like all of those things, I’m enjoying these a lot. Some are better than others of course, but definetely worth the time…..

My favourite is this one George Lucas Starkiller

Culture System : Excellent music blog

This is one of my new favourite blogs. It seems to be updated every couple of days with some high quality off key but in a good way music, usally dubstep or 140bpm stuff but usually with an international feel. Always something worth a listen and it also mean a massive archive of excellent tunes. A lot of the stuff for my mixes has come from here so just thought I’d make a quick post to big them up
